The first three books below were published by Texas A&M University Press. They may be either purchased from the Press by clicking on the cover image of the book and following the link or by contacting me to order a signed copy (see the “About Me” page for more information). The fourth book (Meadowlark cover below) has just been self-published and is available from me (signed) and from Amazon, bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, etc.

Extreme Birder: One Woman’s Big Year: It seems as if I have always had a dream of having a published book, preferably about birds and birding. In 2011, it happened, when Texas A&M University Press published Extreme Birder: One Woman’s Big Year about my 2008 birding across the United State and Canada, doing an “ABA Big Year.” It is illustrated with my photographs. The cover is from my very first acrylic bird painting, done in 2009 after my ABA big year was done.

Birds in Trouble: Once my first book was in press and there was nothing left for me to do on it, we went out to dinner to celebrate. My husband asked me what I planned to do with all my newly freed-up time, and suggested that I might consider doing a book on birds that were endangered. This book, Birds in Trouble, published in 2016 by Texas A&M University Press, is the result. It is illustrated with my paintings and sketches of the birds that I selected to cover.

Big Years, Biggest States: Birding in Texas and Alaska: Two of my most wonderful birding big years were done in Texas (2005) and Alaska (2016). While I was never able to find a publisher for my account of the Texas adventure, after my Alaska big year, Texas A&M University Press agreed to publish an account comparing these two big, big years. This book, Big Years, Biggest States: Birding in Texas and Alaska, was published in 2020. It is illustrated with my paintings and photographs.
Just published:

Birding Times, a Life in Rhymes: My most recent work has been many, many years in preparation, because it is an autobiographical book containing rhymes plus some explanatory prose, starting with rhymes created when I was a child and ending with those created late in 2024. It is entitled Birding Times, a Life in Rhymes. It has just been “self-published” and is available as an eBook and in soft-covered and hard-covered book. It is illustrated with black-and-white sketches and copies of a few of my bird paintings.
Written but not yet published:
A Charisma of Owls : This book is about the owls of North America, primarily the US and Canada, and is illustrated with my paintings. It was submitted to Atmosphere Press, which will publish it in January 2026. The front of the book shows one of my paintings and looks like this:
